How To Sell

Note: Remote locations should follow the disposal instructions for remote locations.

Where To Begin
The first thing is to determine if the item has any restrictions on disposal method. Follow our disposal guidelines to see if your item can be sold.

Once you've confirmed that you can sell the item, we need to determine if there is a market for it. Items should be in good working condition, or require only minimal repairs. To determine if we have a market for your item, complete the Bargain Barn Service Request.

The Bargain Barn staff will review the information submitted, and reply by e-mail to let you know if the item is marketable.

Medical Center departments are to call UCDMC Plant Operations & Maintenance, Excess Property Warehouse, at (916) 734-8312 to arrange for the sale of their items.

What To Do Next
If Bargain Barn has a Market for the Item...
You will need to complete a Bargain Barn Excess/Surplus Property Form for each item and forward it to the Bargain Barn. (Form available in UCD Buy, catalog #71461-230)

Bargain Barn staff will confirm if space is available and will make arrangements to pick up items, at our expense, as space becomes available.

What if the Item Doesn't Sell?
After 28 days, the Bargain Barn will consult with the selling department about an unsold item. With the department's authorization, the item may be sold for any reasonable offer. If the item still does not sell, it will be returned to the department or forwarded to R4 Recycling, as instructed by the department. Any expenses incurred will be recharged to the department.

If Bargain Barn Doesn't Have a Market for the Item...
The department should contact us to coordinate item pickup through Salvage Operations. Follow the disposal tips for the most economical and efficient equipment disposal. Bargain Barn will update the appropriate records in CAMS.

After The Sale
Items that have sold will appear on DaFIS Decision Support transaction reports, including Transaction Log (54) and Transaction Listing (2). The transaction document number will be preceded by a 2-digit origin code BB, indicating a Bargain Barn transaction. The amount of the credit will be indicated in the Expend column on the report and will be followed by a CR.
