About Us
The mission of the Bargain Barn is to support sustainable practices as it returns/sells excess campus and medical center equipment, furniture, and supplies and surplus property to the general public and university departments.
The Bargain Barn offers several major benefits to the university community:
- a streamlined and efficient excess equipment/supply disposal process
- sales that help generate funds for the purchase of new items
- the ability to purchase needed items at substantial cost savings
- compliance with campus policy concerning surplus sales
- a recycling program for consumer electronic devices
- a significant contribution to the university's commitment to sustainability
What the Bargain Barn Does
For each item received by the Bargain Barn, we ensure:
- The university holds legal title to an item offered for sale
- That potential conflicts of interest, or the appearance of such conflict, are avoided
- Verifies that system information is cleared from computer hard drives
- Compliance with the State mandate for unbiased disposal of State property
- Sealed bids are solicited where required or warranted
- The terms and conditions of sale are adhered to
- DaFIS Capital Asset Management System (CAMS) records are appropriately updated with an item's sale/transfer
The Bargain Barn helps meet the university's commitment to
sustainability by returning surplus items back into circulation. The items are re-used by other departments, or the general public, and do not end up in landfills.
